I have a Seagate Barracuda ST3500418AS 500GB FW CC44 that has a short circuit on the 12v rail.
There is no evidance of burning and a diode check on my multimeter fails on the red ringed component in the following pix:-

I have tried to get a CC44 but cant not get one, but have found a CC34. The Logic board looks similar ( I dont have it yet to check ).
Could some one please tell me were the bios chip is from the previous picture as i believe swapping that is my only chance to get the data off.

I assumed the "ringed component" was a transient voltage suppression diode but was not 100% sure.
I can test better when i get the replacement logic PCB.
Am i correct in assuming the 8 legged one below is the Nvram ?
I have searched TVS on the forum but not sure what I'm ment to be looking for am I missing something ?

No this drive doesnot have NVRAM like Hitachi .
Just remove the ringed component and power the drive you will be able to get your data back .

The data is not mine I always have backups of my data and more than one backup of important data.
I learnt my lesson a looooong time ago by deleting some data and having to reconstruct the drive.

Which will not power up.

The owner's wife plugged in the wrong power supply.

Pauln, can you confirm that your fix was to de-solder the ringed component in your picture and was able to access your data?

Or did you replace the logic board in the end?

The Bar Code says 5701U

Post a picture from the other side. Unscrew the PCB.

Sorry, Managed to get the screws out with small jewellers!

Here are some images, 2 close ups of the damaged areas!

You will need to replace the entire PCB and transfer the upper left Chip (8-legs) to the donor PCB.
