Hey guys,
Really hoping someone can help me out here!

I've been using this hard drive for storage for a couple years now, its fairly old but its done its job. I have it in an enclosure via USB to back up my data. Well I went to access it one day and my laptop wouldn't read it at first, so I let it sit and a couple minutes later it showed up but as RAW disk space and asking me format the drive. I then tried it on 2 other machines and got the same result. I've tried a few different attempts to recover my data with no luck, so I'm coming here and asking for yours. PLEASE ANYONE! Thank you!

HDD: Fijitsu 40GB
Model: MHT2040AH

Does it make any clicking or strange noises?
Does it take a while to see the drive?

If your hdd is failing you really need to get a sector by sector image of the drive then if the drive fails you can always work on a copy of the image you got.
R-Studio's data recovery demo software allows imaging & you can then do a scan on the image to see if it will recover your data. If it does then just buy the licence to be able to save your recovered files.

Other tools you can try on the image are FTK Imager, Testdisk which are free.

If you decide to go the DIY route then you accept the risks involved. If not seek a pro, shouldnt be too expensive at the moment unless you cause more issues.
