Hello.
I've got Seagate 7200.12, 500Gb, now it isn't shown in BIOS.
Read a lot about CC, very similar symptoms. In Victoria and so on.
But. In terminal and Putty (without any isolation or connecting read-write) it shows:

Code:
RST 0x10M
RW: Disk Ctlr Initialization Completed
(P) SATA Reset

No messages with CC. It reacts on CTRL+Z, spins well, does /U, /Z (runs and stops when commanding), clears Smart /N1 without errors, does V1 and V4.
But after doing m0,2,2,,,,,22 it shows sth like this:

Code:
Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 14, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = not supported
User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 00 secs
Zone re-format was skipped.

After doing everything written about CC it is not recognized in BIOS anyway.
What to do with Max Certify Rewrite Retries = not supported?
Whan else can I do?

Does it stay BSY?

I cant really see anything obvious here. Check its status register in MHDD and report here.

OK, I'll do MHDD a few hours later and show logs.
Actually, I haven't checked the BUSY status after clearing the G-list and doing m0,2,2,,,,,2 for the second time, but after doing all the widely described operations it is still not shown in BIOS.
No mechanical suspicious sounds, no a word, containing "Error" shown etc.

Stop sending terminal commands because they're widely spread, or this will end with tears.

The method for 7200.11 does not work for your drive.
As hddguy suggests, check the status registers and see, if drive remains bsy then it is probably simple to solve.

this problem is due to firmware corruption, you can see output in terminal similar to LED: 000000BD FAddr : 00009010 or LED: 000000BD FAddr : 000074C0
there is a solution..... pls pm if you have problems with it.

Yes, Victoria says it's still busy after doing all this.
I had no opportunity to run mhdd yet, I'll do it today.

So, after checkin' the status registers, if it's still busy, what should I do then?

No, it doesn't show any LED:000...BD
Only once, yesterday, it showed me LED:0000000CC FAddr:xxx, so "CC". But the message appeared when pressing extremely rapidly Ctrl+Z at the moment of plugging the power cable to HDD, immediately. And only once. But at other times it didn't appear and the drive obeyed all the commands.

Sent PM, but did not think of checking the posts here first as I was in a rush, so it seems you have already tried what I suggested.

Sorry

After executing both the smart erase command and then also after the G list erase command did you power the drive off and then back on?

Yes, I did. I've just tried repowering - the same result.

You could have easily made things worse now. These disks perform a secondary test before being released from manufacturing plant, the results of which are saved to the list you have cleared.

As mentioned previously, the solution for this disk is different to previous models. If you do not know how to work with this disk then send it to someone who can before you lose all your data.

Hope data is not completely garbled at this point :(

OK. I've found necessary data backuped on the other drive.
The disc is still warranted, so I'd like to return it.

What command should I run to erase all data quickly? How to format from terminal?

Read the PC3000 manual. It is all in there.
