Working on a "learner" drive Maxtor with MX15 Firmware.

Just discovered that for my particular drive I had to power off the drive, disconnect from terminal and then reconnect terminal to allow the instructions for Partition regeneration:
F3 T>m0,2,2,,,,,22 to be entered.

Prior to the above terminal would just hang after the command was entered.

You all probably know this but I've now got a working drive from my stack of testers. :-)

Just a little bit of info that might help someone.

Cheers

Make good notes of everything you learn along the way, after a few years you'll have a good database and reference to follow.

This command is rarely used on MX15, there is an improved command to use.

If you are serious about learning DR, you have to appreciate that it is not easy, and it is not quick. You will find plenty of people that will support you and help you out. But you should never take chances with customers data. You need to know when to admit defeat and outsource. In time you will improve and develop but be careful not to get too confident. Find a reputable partner to outsource jobs you dont know how to handle.

Hi hddguy,

Could you tell me what the improved command that you would use is please?

The command I entered at the F3 T> prompt was actually m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22 and not what I posted above. apologies.

This was from my stack of faulty drives on which to practice with.

I considered it a success and have gained a functioning drive, (although I wont use it for anything until I update the firmware)

Gaining a little more knowledge would be a bonus should this need to be done on a customers drive.

Cheers

Logical.
