Hello at all,

i need help with my hdd,

my hdd has been in my frozen car for a week and now it wont work,

if i plugg it, it smokes. So i have bolted the board on the back side of the hdd and seen that (in the added picture the red part) is broken.

I know that i can exchange the board with a new one, but 40€ is not little money.

So i need help of someone of you. If anybody can tell me what i can do and where i can buy this small part for the board please help.

The data of the hdd:
Seagate Barracuda 1,5 TerraByte
st31500541as
p/n: 9tn15r - 510
Firmware: CC34
Date Code: 10323

Sorry for my bad english, have not spoken it about 3 years.

Hi,

Thats the 12v TVS Diode it is there for over voltage protection.
If your sure your PSU is ok you could try removing the faulty diode. If your lucky & theres no other damage the drive will work & you should copy off your data & then bin the drive.

40 Euros is cheap if it fixes your drive so you can get access to your data!!!
If you swap the PCB yourself you will need to desolder the 8 legged rom chip (bottom left on pic) & solder it on to the donor PCB. This rom chip has unique drive info.

Remember if you try DIY fixes then you accept the risks involved.

You should replace this diode, otherwise the drive now have no protection.

Glad it worked :D

As I said it will no longer have over voltage protection.
You could buy a 12v TVS diode & solder it on if you want?

Search the forum there are links to digkey etc.

Loki

PS; just remember to back up your data
