i have a Seagate 7200.11 500Gb with the bzy problem.
when i power up (U) the drive it starts ticking and shows this at the terminal:

F3 T>/2

F3 2>Z

Spin Down Complete
Elapsed Time 0.145 msecs
F3 2>U

Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008
Spin Error
Elapsed Time 23.196 secs
R/W Status 2 R/W Error 84150180
F3 T>/1

F3 1>N1

Unable to load Diag Overlay

F3 1>

You are sure PCB is native?

At 'T>' hit CTRL+L and check serial against label. always good to be sure.

If pcb is native, it is not the bsy bug then. Just because terminal says LED CC it doesn't mean it is the bug.
LED CC is the symptom, not the disease.

All this suggests there is some hardware error. It could be issue with heads, but also could be issue with PCB or Spindle.

On initial powering does the media reach DRDY then power down?

R/W Error 84150180 I have seen in cases with damaged heads.

But I ask you to check if PCB is native because your first note says it has BSY fault and gives ticking on powerup. Assuming spindle remains powered this could be associated with non-native PCB.

Spindle doesnt remain. after 10sec or so, it stops. When i power up the drive shows bzy starts clicking and spindle down. it shows, at the details of atola, the S/N F/W etc and also shows Locked/Maximum.

Then after spindle stops ID is made from PCB because SA cant be reached.

common BSY bug prevents access to data but spindle remains constant and BSY flag is constant. 0 LBA problem prevents access to data but access to SA remains and flags show DRDY / DSC.

For physical problem spindle will stop and errors returned via terminal are reflective of this.

So you suggest first have a go by changing the pcb and if that has no result try to change heads.

Going to end up being heads. Possibly with media damage.

Unfortunately, yes.

Is the drive from an external? What did the customer think happen to it?

Same problem here, but head swap didn't worked....
But when I press CTRL+L I get the drive details. If heads are bad, I shouldn't get that result, right»
