I have clicking harddrive that stop clicking and starting to work but windows want me to format it but not successful and its not showing the drive in windows and when trying to recover using TestDisk the log logs that :
Code:
filewin32_getfilesize(\\.\E:) GetFileSize err Incorrect function.

filewin32_setfilepointer(\\.\E:) SetFilePointer err ‏‏Incorrect function.

Warning: can't get size for \\.\E:

I forgot that E is the diskdrive so that means testdisk logs nothing... when starting Windows' Create-and-format-a-hard-disk-partition tool its asking me to format something and I have two choises. The second one is the newest (and I think that Mac uses that). After some reading by searching in google I think what its asking me to do its rewriting the boot code

If this disk is really recognized in the BIOS but windows want to format it then use DDRescue and clone it to another HDD. From the clone you can use RStudio or Get Data back to try and get off your data on the HDD.

If it is not recognized in BIOS this one will be hard to do. But anyhow download DDRescue and se if you can clone it to another drive and then work on clone but do not work on origianl drive. This one is too dangerous. You can always make another clone if you mess up on this one but on original you can not make another one.

If you want your data and your drive has problems as you have described in here then the answer is yes. You need a drive to clone this one to one way or the other. You should never work on a failing drive and especially if one has some logical errors as you have described in here. You risk the chance of loosing all your data. Always clone a HDD first before doing anything else. Then work on your clone to get off your data. never on a failing drive.
