Hi all.
New here and need some simple answers please.................

I just brought a WD Elements 1T external hard drive and loaded my mp3 music collection on to it.
Out the box I plugged and played, no installation of any kind.

This drive is supposed to "Sleep" after a period of non use.
It seems to be spinning fast all the time.
After about 1 hour , if i leave it, it will turn off and I cant see it on "My Computer".
Then I unplug the power lead and put it back in again to re power it.

Is this normal ?
Does it spin fast when in "Sleep" mode ?
Can I see anywhere if its gone into "Sleep" mode ?
Im not sure what it should be doing ?
Is it working properly ?

What is the model number? Is it a portable drive with one usb cable only? Or a desktop drive with external power brick?
