I received a drive today that is a 2TB FreeAgent GoFlex. The customer said it had gotten really slow lately and finally the folder with all of his data disappeared. The folder is definitely gone but the files are still out there. The properties show it is using 1.2 TB and a quick check with R-Studio showed a number of jpg files. When I hooked it up to the DDI and tried to get a folder structure with the DRE there was no MFT found. Googling this issue seems to indicate that this is a common problem. I am running a 17 hour image of the drive to be safe and then I am going to try Boomerang at the suggestion of a colleague. Does anybody know of an easy way to bring back the folder structure of his backups? I'd hate to run R-Studio for 22 hours and tell him I have 150,000 pictures as orphan files.

Thank you,

Philip Shaw

I'm pretty sure the DDI looks for any instances of the MFT and it found nothing. Is there another way to scan the mft mirror?
