Hello everyone, Long time reader first time posting.

I have a WD200BB-32CXA0 with these bad modules
23 Translator: Wedges
25 Translator: Pending Sectors
29 Smart: Attributes
2D Smart: Attributes
4E
59
F4
I know that their are modules that should not be touch
my question is if I overwrite any of these with good copies from a donor drive
will the data be compromise?

Thanks for any help that i can get

BTW I am using the Atola Insight

Writing these modules as an event should not compromise the current data, BUT what will be done, whatever you plan on doing with the drive given these have been written, may compromise access to the current data on the drive afterwards.

Also, there are a lot of IFs when doing this, where firmware resources need to be back-up so you can undo something, also have to consider the damage on the drive, media and HSA conditions, etc.

I have no access to data at the moment, my goal is to overwrite the bad modules
with good ones from a donor drive that I already have to gain access to the data
to attempt to image.

Translator is unique to each drive, so a donor translator will not work to access data.

What tool are you working with?

You mentioned that in the first post, slipped through my reading. Sorry.

I am not very familiar with Atola's firmware capabilities. Do see it has a firmware automatic repair function. That did not work?
It supports manual functionality it seems as well, just do not know the extent of it.

Other forum members use Atola, so maybe they will shed some light.

Sent you a PM with another possible solution.

No unfortunately the automatic firmware recovery did not work.
I can manually access all the modules right click and choose a source.
I did not want to overwrite anything till I could understand better
what each of those modules are and will overwriting them affect
the access of data on the drive.

so far what i got is do not touch the Translators modules 23 and 25
but what about the others?

Can I overwrite the other and hope to get data access? or without
the translators is hopeless to get data access?

You will need the translator mods to be working to gain access

Thanks you everyone for the Info.

Thanks for the PM Labtech, but It looks like the Atola can not rebuild from P-list :(

Maybe in the next version upgrade. Did you contact the tech support? Maybe a release will take place soon.
