Hi all,

I'm attempting to recover data from a Toshiba MK8046GSX HDD2D93 drive that suffered a little water spillage!

Having found a suitable donor PCB the drive now spins up, but as per the How-To Swap a PCB article at DonorDrives.com the drive is unrecognisable unless I swap over the 8-pin ROM chip.

However, the board has 2 8-pin chips that I can see so can any of the experienced members of this forum guide me as to which one I should be focusing my attention on?

Many thanks in advance

That's what I suspected but hoped someone could confirm! :D

Thanks very much for the prompt response.

Be VERY careful with that chip.

They are very thin and often have a solder pad underneath making its removal very difficult indeed. Especially without decent gear.

Damage it and it's pretty much "game over"

Not scaremongering before any wiseguy "DR Company Basher" starts, just advice.

Good luck.
