Hello, I have solved my WD1600BB locked by ATA Password.
I found the password in the 42.bin file created using V4.5 &
the scripts .dump .dump2 & .dump48 I also ran the .test &
.idescan Most ATA Password problems that I have read on this
forum would indicate that your Password is line 100 bit 09 onwards
if you look you will see that bits 07 08 are 01 07 this combo appears
to be the clue to the password. Again, it does depend on whether
your Security is set to High or Maximum. I would like to view your
42.bin to be sure. The surprising thing with the WD1600BB IDE drive
that I unlocked is that the Password was from line 390 in 42.bin 390
bit 08 to 3A0-003 & this Drive, after further research on what I felt
was the PASSWORD, I determined had been used in an X-Box.
Further investigation revealed some very interesting facts
regarding Password Locks on these X-Box's.
This forum is well worth reading-lots of pages but if you want to learn
then you will have to be patient. There are some very good postings
but I cannot be specific-Infringer & ArdenEdition do come to mind so
read all you can and Good Luck.

Warren

Hi all,

I really hate to do this but wondering if someone could pm or post on here what I need to know.

Basically found an oldish laptop in my work which may have important data on it. Boss wants me to look anyway and thinks the hdd was locked by the last IT guy who left a while ago. This laptop is dead but putting it into mine I've managed to run MHDD and the dump script to get the 22.bin file. (See below)
Now I'm thinking the user password is 02 0A 05 08 1F 26 and the master
04 24 16 23 09 15 07 24 is this correct? Basically looking for the 01 07 00 and taking all the hex values up to when the 00 's start and then taking the other values after this until the 00's start again as the master password, is this correct?

If so how do I get these into passwords I can enter into MHDD to unlock the drive? I've tried converting to decimal and selecting alt gr when typing each 3 digit part but nothing types in. Also tried an hex to ASCII and tried those values after dispwd command also. No joy. Also converted the hex to keyboard scan codes and used them In MHDD and Victoria with still no success?

Any body know what I'm doing wrong? I tried saving the HEX selections using ultraedit and then selecting those files in victoria security manager to unlock the hard drive but it doesn't seem to send the anything from the file.

Used this guide (translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://elettrofreak.blogspot.com/2011/02/estrarre-le-password-ata-da-un-hard.html)

Thanks for the help, wont let me pm for some reason.

With the locked drive in my laptop I booted Victoria from Hirens, set to PIO mode and tried the user 1947sl scan code using high and max security settings in the password box and also tried the scan code 3JUH8Y6J for master. Still nothing, comes up with error.

Any other ideas? I think I've read somewhere that the drive may need these passwords sent via a file in Victoria but I'm unsure how to do this or if it is right. Also do you think its worth trying the password converted from the hex and not to the scan codes? What would you get for this as when I tried I got $#$ for the master, doesn't seem right to me.

Well this is a thread for WD drives, methods used here probably won't be the same for Toshiba. Checked the other threads?

Hi there.
My hard drive is WD3200BEVT and it is locked. I got samsung laptop RV510 and I would happily carry on trying to unlock it myself but I cant get pass my laptop screen where it asks for password. I got bootable memory stick with MHDD on it but the problem is it will only boot up when hard drive is out. Even when I set boot option to other devices it seems it wont let me boot up from them unless I input this password. Without the hard drive it boots up from dvd and flash drive no problem. I tried connecting the hard drive via usb caddy but it seems that MHDD doesnt recognise it/cant find it.
My main question is then, is it possible to unlock a hard drive via USB or would I have to plug it into PC and try to boot? I read this whole thread which is a bit confusing to novice like me and I couldnt find the answer. I dont care about the data on that hard drive so if there is a destructive way of doing it I will be more than happy to hear it.

Would appreciate help from you guys, I can answer any question you may have. I know it is not expensive HDD but Id rather try and sort it our before buying another one...
Cheers, Dan

Could try this:

1) Boot to the MHDD CD
2) You will see a list of harddisk, select a harddisk you want to unlock
3) Type "unlock" and reply "1" for master password
4) Enter the master password. “WDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCWDCW”
(If it is wrong, ERR will turns red on the top of the screen, and You have 4 more tries before it powercycle the disk)
5) If it is correct, type "DISPWD" and reply "1"
(There will be a warning if your disk is still locked)
Retype the master password again and your disk is unlocked!
(ERR will turn red if the password wrong)
6) Type exit and press "ctrl + alt+ del" to reboot

Worth a try at least
