Hi all
I have a drive with scratches as can be seen here in the photo,

Do you think it is worth the head replacement or will it be a waste of time in this case?
2 sets of rings one in the centre of the drive and one towards the outside.

Thank you in advance

There is still chance in my opinion, but you need to forget data from that surface if you want to keep cost at minimum. If other surfaces are ok, there 's still chance. But it is difficult task, expensive and you only get part of data.

For that surface, with some "black magic" you can get *some* of the data too. But needs a lot of experimenting and possibly using a lot of spare parts.

If I were you I would lift platters and check surface 0. If that had damage, I would just forget it. Otherwise, and assuming client would accept quote, I 'd go for it, hoping middle surfaces are ok.

Just my $0.02

You could end up going through a lot of donors. Perhaps get client to pay for donors upfront.
