Hello,
i bought 2 months ago a new harddrive Western Digital caviar blue sata.
MDL: WD5000AAKX-001CAO
Firmware: 15.01H15
S/n: WMAYUA552892
WWN: 50014EE05865EFA6
DATE: January 2, 2012
DCM: DGNNHV2CE
DCX: 50091ARC2
Product of Malaysia

I used this hdd only few times just for backup
When i turn on the computer, the operating system (installed on my main seagate hard drive) hangs with black screen and it doesn't load.
But if i disconnect the WD the S.O. is loaded normally, then I tried using mhdd in dos, and all areas of WD are read very very very slowly (anywhere on surface disc).
The read rate is about 100 sectors per second!
I'm so unlucky!!!

I don't think platters are damaged, because a day worked perfectly, and the next day all sectors are delay, perhaps are the heads?
Heads are not clicking or nocking, disk noises are all normal.
With idriverepair I did analyse the firmware remotely and has not been detected any problem.
I know it's under warranty, but correct me if I'm wrong, the data are not covered under warranty right?

I'm desperate and very sad for all lost data, help me please!!
:( :(

P.S.
I also checked the drive with official WD tool Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for DOS
The response was ERROR/STATUS CODE: 007, which means Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) error

Please help me to get back my data of this WD
:-?

Since this is a backup you should just be able use the original copy and forget about this one. If you don't have two copies of your important stuff, then, it's not a real backup. From this day forward, you will always keep two copies anything you do not wish to lose.

Having said that, I suggest you get the advice and capabilities of a professional service.

I backup all data from a seagate ST3500320AS, but unfortunately now it has stucked motor.
So i have now 2 hdd with exactly same data but i can't access them.

Seagate ST3500320AS: It has bad sectors so i cloned it with WinHex
Now it has also stucked motor.

WD5000AAKX-001CAO: It's the new hard drive in which i cloned my seagate hdd, but after only 2 months has all slow sectors.

How much it cost to get back data from a seagate ST3500320AS hard drive with stucked motor and few bad sector?
Also how much cost to get back data from WD5000AAKX-001CAO Caviar Blue with all slow sectors?

Which one of these 2 is cheaper to get all data back?

Please can you explain me why this drive has this "slow responding" issue?
I bought it only 2 months ago :(

Common problem on this model related to ROM/SA corruption.

Ouch! 2-bad drives. I don't suppose it's a bad thing when I tell some of my customers to make a tertiary copy! Damn..

So... western digital is not good but someone in this forum, i don't remember who, told me they are good, expecially caviar blue and caviar black, now you say caviar blue it's not good.
Also seagate is not good (probably the worse one).

So i ask you, which is a good hard drive?
I don't want waste money anymore on expensive hard drive which are garbage

Just because someone says a certain brand are good (presumably because they have had good luck/experience with them) does not make them "bullet proof" I'm afraid.

All drives these days are made to a price rather than quality, so IMHO they are all pretty much of a muchness, all equally as poor. I used to like Samsung but now they have been engulfed by Seagate.

There is no substitute for backups.

If is a ROM/SA corruption as you say, it is possible to repair it with SeDiv or WDR-SRT?

Can you solve this issue?
How much does it cost to repair or get back all data?

Hello, i've more news about this drive!

I don't know way, but now SMART data are seen in MHDD... few days ago i couln't because gave me error after i enter the F8 comand.
Also, few day ago when i gave the F4 comand (surface scan) it was very very slow on all surface, but know is very slow only on first 1.500.000 sectors (founded more then 10 corrupted sectors at about LBA 1.400.000) after LBA 1.500.000 the speed of surface scan is very fast.
Seems now is getting better, i don't know why

Peraphs this issue is caused by the "seek error rate" :?:

This is the SMART report of MHDD:
Code:
Name                       Val      Worst   Raw

Read Error Rate:            179      179     106
Spin Up Time:               148      140     3575
Number of Spin:             100      100     21
Reallocated sectors count:  194      194     119
Seek Error Rate:             50       1      9195
Power-on time:              100      100     239
Spin Up Retries:            100      253     0
Calibration Retries:        100      253     0
Start/Stop Count:           100      100     19
Power Off Retract Count:    200      200     17
Load/Unload Cycle Count:    200      200     3
HDA Temp:                   106      94      37
Reallocated event count:    189       166    11
Current Pending Sectors     200     200      41
Offline scan UNC Sectors:   100      253     0
Ultra ATA CRC Error Rate:  200      200           2
Write Error Rate:              100      253        0

MHDD is the only software that is able to scan surface fast after LBA 1.500.000 so i want to ak you, it is possible to clone the drive with MHDD on a second drive?
Maybe with ATOF comand or what?
Please help me, thank you.

Stop testing. Clone it with DD or DMDE and then RMA. For older locked drives - translator regeneration script did a job (just to get data out). But your drive suddenly came to life, clone it immediately.

SMART shows serious problem with servo, possibly cause of slowness and pending/relocated sector count.

I downloaded DMDE, but it works on windows.
I can't and i don't want to load this faulty device in windows, so i need the DOS version.
How can i boot DMDE in DOS with CD-Rom or USB ?

An easy way would be to create the R-Studio Emergency boot cd. As far as I remember the evaluation version will allow you to image a drive to a file or to another drive. Make sure you create a full and not a compressed image. Then after you would be able to run just about any recovery software to extact files if required.
