Hi,
I have a ST3750330AS (came with SD15 firmware) 750 GB hdd that one day went suddenly "brick" for no reason !
I sent it for repair, and the repair men installed SD1A firmware on it.
The hard drive was not opened, just firmware installed on it.
I can now perfectly read data 0-375Gb. Once I go further with the reading,
any sector beyond 375Gb, the drive freezes and disappears from the list of devices.
SMART stops working, does not appear in BIOS after restart.
I can access it again if I disconnect it from the power supply,
and reconnect it.
The drive itself, from the first scan of the 0-375GB, uncovered 4096 bad sectors that
fails to reallocate.
I'd like to try to fix this issue myself before sending it back to data recovery.
It doesn't seem to be broken since it reads flawlessly the first 375 GB over and over again.

Any ideas on how to make it read all the way up to 750Gb or what's the cause of this behavior ?
Do you need additional information ?

Looks like translator issue maybe... If not a single sector can be accessed after that certain point.

The "Translator" issue is it fixable ?
do I have to enter the drive parameters manually in BIOS ?
do I have to install some software to enable correct translation ?
I need some clues !

Translator is a firmware module, needs to be properly regenerated by someone with the correct tools and knowledge.

The "m0,6,2,,,,,22" command did not fix the issue, but it was worth trying, thank you.
Still can read only 375Gb out of 750Gb. Still hangs when trying to read more.
I can still issue commands to the drive via hyperterminal -> CA-42 cable though.

Any other ideas
