Hey there! The PCB of my WD 2060-701640-001 fried out back in October and I've recently made the quest to get it fixed, although I've ran into a bit of few problems.

I ordered a new 2060-701640-001 PCB without the BIOS (cause my PCB has no bios as its inside the main controller IC). I recently took my harddrive and PCB to a local computer specialists, and he ended up burning my old PCB's controller IC and the new one too because of his shoddy job.

Anything I can do now? I'm stuck. I live in the New Jersey, US area..around Union City.

If the "bios" chip is busted (the chip that contains the ROM information) then the only option is using the same special data recovery tools which should have been used to move the ROM information in the first place (rather than trying to move that big chip) to try to regenerate the ROM. I believe there is nothing you can do at this point, but a pro may still be able to recover it.

We can try it for you. If we can do it, it will likely be cheaper than most others. If we can't, there is no charge (and we can refer you to another company, which will be more expensive, but if they can't do it - it's probably not possible).

Although, why do you think the original problem was a bad PCB? Did you hookup incorrect power to the drive or something? What were the drive's symptoms?

Also, please provide to complete model number of the drive (that way we can see if we've had it before and let you know the most common problem with your model).

The original problem was diagnosed by a professional, a burnt PCB. The disk drive spins just fine, without any problems.

I had the drive checked by a professional, the platters spin and there are no signs of internal damage. I had trouble getting power to the hardddrive itself.
