NO,
that's not the kernel of DDI, it's DeepSpar Recovery Environment
( Windows-based application extending File System Recovery capabilities of DeepSpar Disk Imager)

I have the DDI v3 without the network addon (not sure if its worth the extra £250-£300 as I can walk over to it) but as far as I know you basically remote desktop to the DDI to see the dos application running.

The DDI v3 box boots to dos c:\ then you just type ddi to run the program.
The DDI v4 you need a bootable usb pen to boot to dos & then run the ddi command. The main advantage of the ddi v4 is the imaging transfer speed.

Hi Loki :)

yes i confirm that also V.4 need type ddi, DeepSpar provide a pendrive (that i immediatly clone since i know pendrive can failure, thanx to good and to our buisiness) that must be choosen on boot of bios machine.

i don't use network edition. DDI is impressive fast in cloning and has automatic-smart 4 passes (that DE do not manage) without babysitting the drive. Also ig good for some brand (i.e. Toshiba) that other tools do not manage so well.
