Hello, i've this Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160828AS with firmware 3.04 in busy state.
No head clicking and motor spins good.
Hyper terminal detects it in T level but i don't want to do anything more until i know the right procedure.
SeDiv detects the drive with correct S/N
I don't think the fix procedure is the same of 7200.11 serie, so i hope you can help me with the right procedure to fix it.
Thank you.

He means what comes up in terminal when you apply power.

I.e. any error messages.

There is no magic commands for "busy fix" on 7200.7 :-(

Is it possible to fix with terminal?

I also downloaded "Seagate Firmware Repair 5.0" from Salvation Data (to install it i had to install my old Win 98 SE) :
http://www.salvationdata.com/data-recov ... rapair.htm

The demo version is able to fix only Barracudas 7200.7 (i'm lucky) but unfurtunally gives me "Err TYPE".
To solve this problem i followed the PDF manual which says to switch off power supply to the drive, then switch it on, press [CTRL+C] and perform [Power Reload], but always keep saying "Drive not detected" and if i push [Reload] button keeps saying "Err TYPE".

Hope you can help me

Consiglio amichevole : se continui a voler fare le cose con QUESTI strumenti in questo modo e' molto difficile ottenere sia risultati sia soprattutto AIUTO specialmente QUI dai professionisti. Non posso dirti altro.

Friendly advice : if you keep going on with THESE tools / stuff THAT way it is very difficult to obtain RESULTS and HELP , especially HERE from the pros. Enough said.

Wrong boot ROM message (1-disk), it should be (perhaps) 2-disks - 4 heads

Am i right?

Any help?

Could you tell me if this script is right when i apply power?
Code:
PUMA2 - 1_Disk    0.03  12-12-05 14:40

Or if the right script should be this?
Code:
PUMA2 - 2_Disk    3.04  12-12-05 14:42  4096k x 16 buffer

Initializing SMART Sectors...................................RPO................

After the RPO message it did 2 horrible GRRRRRZZ noises (long about 4/5 secons for each), and i was very worried when i heard those, but after i rebooted i was very surprised.
BIOS detect it again, and also windows, and i can access to all my data again.

You're great Sajunky, you're the best and the only one in this forum who really helped me to recover something

I don't understand why the famous gurus in this forum could not figured a way to solve this issue.
Maybe because they don't want to help...
It was easy. 8)

Solution:
you can safely reset SMART. Terminal command is to restart firmware ^T, after startup message ^Z (don't wait too long), go level 1 and issue command N1, like this:
^T
^Z
T>/1 [ENTER]
1>N1 [ENTER]

Whooooow!!!!
I am humble man. Why you don't say all truth?
It was your findings, not mine. You posted this link in private message, why don't share with others? Here it is:

Anyway, I am glad it worked. :)

EDIT: I see, link is already included.
