Hey everyone. I have had this drive for about 2 years now but anyways During one of the scan and fixes the drive got disconnected. A pop up window said the drive was unexcessable and now nothing can see the drive. A good 99% of the drive was filled and I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried many different repair software's but nothing can see it. Thank you to anyone who can help me

Software more than likely will not help.
It's either a hardware issue with internal read/write mechanism and/or firmware.
Hard to decipher which one exactly without advanced data recovery tools and proper tests.

Can you describe the drive's behavior in as much detail after power-on (put your ear close to the drive)? For example, powered on, spins, hear a couple of clicks, stays spinning it/spins down, etc.

If the data is important, the best course of action is to seek for a professional who has the tools and know how to perform a solid evaluation.

It powers on like normal, it spins normally and it clicks like it is being written too. It isn't too important but it would really suck if anything was lost on the drive. It has been dropped in the past but this time it wasn't. From what I was reading it seems like it is the internal file system of the drive which is corrupt.

this was a bad sign from the past.



it is NOT, most probably Heads are weak/dead

When powered for several minutes can you feel the motor stop, or does it remain constant?

It remains constant no matter how long it is plugged in. I'm going to take it to a local computer repair shop to see if they can do anything and maybe call up western digital to see if they can fix it.

Not a good idea typically, but it's your data..

Okay,well is it a good idea to see if the manufacturer can fix it then? I guess I can look on Craigslist to see if their is anyone who does HDDs.

Good start. Suggest you go online to their data recovery partners list to get an idea of choices.

That could be a lot worse than the computer shop.

I just got off the phone with WDC and they where semi helpful. they gave me a case number and everything so maybe it will go through. I am going to continue to look online for a solution I can do and If i find one ill let everyone here know so for the future this will be an easy fix. Craigslist might be something I would only do if I am desperate, If it does end up coming to what, is their anything that I can use in order to recover the files on the drive? I am probably going to be picking up a 2TB drive in the near future anyways.

Not really, as ordinary tools are not helpful.
More than anything it is about the experience in performing the work.

Often these guys make things worse, trying all sorts of stuff on something they don't know enough about.

Seen tons of cases that would almost certainly been recoverable before they got "butchered" by "the guy that knows about PC's"

But like labtech says, it's your data.
