one hard WD5000MVW not detect on my computer but detect on manege but not open and error i cant format and i cant creat partition.
by software WD SmartWare when open erron this locked and qustion password but i dont know password.
how i can repair this hard.?

You can fix it if you know the password.

If you don't know the password, load WD Smartware on your computer. It will let you format the drive, but you will lose the data on the drive.

If you think you can recover the data after Smartware utility format the drive (with password still activated), well forget it.....

In addition to the other helpful comments given by other members so far, I have 4 questions for you, as I think there may be some misunderstandings due to the limited detail given in your story so far:

a) Is this your drive?

b) Have you ever used Smartware to set a password on it?

c) What happened shortly before this problem started - e.g. was the drive dropped/knocked, or a power cut occurred, or something else?

d) How exactly will you recover your data, if you could make Smartware format the drive (as freakzy highlighted)? Are you saying: (i) that you have a backup somewhere else, so you don't care about the data on this drive? Or (ii) that you think you can recover data from this drive, if you were able to make Smartware format it?

IMHO, based on those answers (especially answer (b)) it seems this is not really a lost password situation - more likely an internal drive fault (especially based on answer (c)) is preventing the encryption chip from reading the necesssary "special area" on the drive related to encryption, and that is why you are being prompted for a password now.

As networks said, you will not be able to recover the data, if Smartware could format the drive. R-Studio will not help you in that case, as the drive would be totally erased.

Based on your answers, my interpretation is that you have near zero chance of success with recovering data from this drive, and it likely does not have the password problem you have been trying to resolve. Further diagnosis is needed, but IMHO has high risks (again, especially based on answer (c)) and since this is not your drive, that choice of whether to take the risk, belongs to the owner. If the data is important, then IMHO this drive should go to someone with the necessary experience.

However if an expert like jono-ats has a different view, then believe him and not me.

I agree, this sounds to me like bad news for you. When these drives prompt for password (when there is none set), then you have a lot of mess to deal with. Not many people in the world can unlock it (otherwise, there would be no use to enter a password).

When you press the 'password hint' what does it say?

Also, as a sidenote, trying to "format and create partitions" on a sick drive which contains customers' valuable data, is never a good idea.

PS1. I also agree with others that you seem to have zero experience with it and if customers' data are of high value, I suggest you outsource this job to someone who knows how to swim in such deep waters.

PS2. R-Studio does nothing in your case.

It seems there is a communication problem - you are asking more questions, without understanding that they are the wrong questions (based on the story that you have told so far). Also you didn't answer the question from northwind.

IMHO:


In this situation, you cannot do that (you already explained that), and anyway you must not do that, because you cannot recover the data afterwards.


That is an unreasonable question for this type of problem, considering the limitations of your experience in this area, and the communication problems. The answer to your question would need someone to write a book for you! Even further diagnosis steps have high risk, and may not make more progress.


Read carefully the answer you already have from northwind. Your plan is never a good idea, and the full answer depends on what you use to do the "format" (see the answer to your question (1) above).

I think this thread is going in a circle, because you do not like (or do not understand) the answers which you are reading.
