Guys, am wondering if any of you got some similar case to this:

1TB Seagate, ID`s fine, and everything works perfect, BUT here is what happens with it:

1- The Moment you access the DATA after no more than 45sec. the drive spins down
2- If i power it ON and leave it IS OK, but once accessing the DATA the counter starts again no more than 45sec.
3- Changed the PCB with 4 , same results, no over heat no sound which is not normal
4- If i leave it for 1-2h and power it ON again, i can access the DATA and again counter starts <=45sec


I really bet if someone saw such behavior like this in this damn seagate.

any clues???

Closed the case yesterday without data. Momentus 5400.4 (Holiday family)

Agreed northwind that's where I would start, perhaps with debug messages enabled there too (assuming einstein9 can access the terminal mode on this specific drive!).

I've got an idea about a type of fault which would cause this behaviour - terminal output should help to confirm/deny the type of problem.

About the 4 i mean, i tried 4 pcb`s with the same result

In terminal (which i forgot to mention it on my 1st. post) no problem @ alll sounds normal

btw, i know that sometimes in terminal while accessing the data it reports some errors/problems
but in this case there is not even a chance of having one, the time is so short.

I did test it many times with my TIMER, no more than 45sec.

Hi, Maybe try access data at different start point?

PM sent.

Time Frame I counted:

Power on to ready = 5-7sec
Util Open = 3sec more or less
DE Task (no save) = 10-13sec

Conclusion is: about 20-25sec

heheh i have only 20sec. to work on

And tried that btw, with the same results, the hdd insists on the time really, no more than 45sec. in total
i did my math here

Am telling you, i did many seagate here but this is the 1st. Unique Case

in my case it was 500GB, i didn't count the timer, but it was the same symptom, everything is fine, but after accessing few sec it stops, in terminal same info like yours. no error, exactly same

Edit HDD ID to enable additional diag messages in terminal, might get some more useful info.
