i've this Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3500630A with ATA interface which is not detect in windows anymore.
Bios does detect it and also MHDD.
MHDD shows no good smart logs, so i began cloning the drive with Mediatools in dos.



From LBA 0 to LBA 68.353.992 every sector have been cloned with no errors, but after LBA 68.353.992 the cloning process hanged.
I resetted the computer but the drive wasn't detect anymore in bios, so i powered off the computer and powered on again and the drive got detect again.
I began the cloning again from LBA 68.353.992 but after few seconds hanged again at LBA 68.650.659 (have to power off again, reset is not sufficient).
Power off, power on and cloned until LBA 68.660.550 the stops again.

I disabled the smart in bios but i have still the same problem.
I also tried to clone again from LBA 0 to see if it was able to clone those again without trouble, but unfortunately not.

Why can't i clone anymore? I can't switch off and on thousand of time
It's possible to check the firmware or the heads on this drive in terminal?
If i do the translator regeneration, could i be able to continue the cloning?

Mediatools is useless in this (and many other) case and the behaviour is exactly what you have to expect.



Yes it's called HW imager. I have a certain feeling in such case even a Salvation DATA COMPASS can do an excellent work (but in THIS very case).

P.S. don't ever think about playing with commands and forget what you called "translator" if you don't have a FULL backup of the service area and you really know what you're doing.

If it's not too much, can i ask you why suddenly the drive can't be cloned?
What happened?

The drive is severely degraded due to bad sectors and highly likely bad read-write component(s).

Or something else. I would forget mediatools and all linux based stuff - when drive is so unstable, most software is useful like a tit on a bull. If you know someone in your area with a Deepspar or DC who can help, try it.

I'm still thinking about pro DR, but if i cant' afford it i will try on my own, data it's not so important to spend more then 200 €.
Which is a good translator regeneration command for 7200.10 hdd?
Can i try the m0,2,2,,,,,22 as for 7200.11 series or it will not work?

I don't mean if the m0,2,2,,,,,22 will fix the problem, i just want to know the effect of m0,2,2,,,,,22 command on 7200.10 if does the limited LBA access issue or if is safe, or if just does nothing.
