hello all .

a customer brought me her laptop hdd that stopped working and produces a little clicking .the HDD is full of photos .
after doing a head map using DDI4 i found that head 0 is bearley working , head 1 has some issues .

i did image the disk "with tons" of lost sectors , and i did a raw recovery as no FS was detected using r-studio.

now as usual alot of photos are damaged due to fragmentation and lost sectors , but one thing i have noticed .

using a demo version of jpeg repair did restor some lost parts of some images along with restoring the whole photo in some cases .
so i think it's a jpeg problem , and the photo data is retrieved ok for some photos ! as it could be repared correctly .
is there a proper way to restore the jpegs correctly ? without restoring it as parts and reparing it ?
how to test all photos and distinguish the broken ones ?

thank you all

There are a few topics here about this.

Photos are pain to recover if there are lost/bad sectors.
The best way is to swap heads and try to read all from the HDD.

the customer doesn't want to pay alot , and reading one head was enough for her .
i used
CorruptJPEGChecker along with the renamer application to isolate the broken jpegs ,,

thank you
