hello ,

i recieved a transcend external drive to recover .

customer mentioned the drive produces a little ticking and doesn't appear when plugged to windows .

using DDI4 i found head map is 0,1,2,3
head 3 has some issues .

the customer requested only 1 folder to be recovered named "documents"
using ddi "load/reload mft tables" has successfully imaged the mft tables , when i plugged the drive to a windows machine , i found the customer folders but not a "documents" folder .

i did image what i could from the sick drive , and here is the log

Unfortunately I don't have a DDI4 but that image is not 100% complete so who knows what might be missing.

Anyway never take the info supplied by the customer for granted. Customers tend to have severe memory lapses, bouts of confusion and dementia!

Maybe the documents are located in a folder or subfolder on the desktop? Or in the root? Or a renamed documents folder?

When you say you ran a raw recovery and you found no documents folder I am a bit confused as you would only find the files with the original names lost. No folders except for type by extension.

You are right einstein9, DDI does not support HM on Samsung.

The results are inconclusive if H3 is really bad.

So until H3 is fixed we will not know if the MFT is incomplete or the client is being "economical with the truth" :-)

ask the client for a specific file name or two that was in that folder he asked for. Maybe you can figure out if you actually got the folder the client wants.

Thank you all for your help

files have magically appeared in a folder called "under" after asking the customer for some files names and searching for them .
some customers does have severe memory lapses, bouts of confusion and dementia :)

the ddi4 doesn't support Hm for samsung drives , so what ever i had for this samsung drive i think it's unreliable as a HM for imaging the drive .

thank you again
