Hello folks.

first off I would like to say I am a huge noob in terms of HDD rerpair and it's also my very first post here. So hopefully I won't make too many mistakes on my first question.

So I got this Harddrive from my sister:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
S/N: 5VP11973
ST31000528AS
P/N: 9SL154-568
Firmware: CC35
There's also a serial (or sorta like that) on the PCB: 100536501 REV A

So that drive was an external one and after my sister lost here power adaptor for the drive she got a replacement... some sort of universal thing and now a few weeks later the drive stopped working. In fact giving power to it doesn't do anything - no spinning, no click, no beep - nothing. I had a bad feeling about that.

Anways as said I am not an expert with HDD repairs so the first thing I thought of was to replace the electronics - the PCB. Then here I read about a temporary solution by removing a "fuse diode" (?) from the PCB.
However I am not sure which diode to remove. So I removed the PCB to make a photo which I'd like to show you here.

Now if you could probably point me to that diode I would like to try if removing actually helps. Even tho if you look at the upper right of the photo you can see dome damage on the PCB already...
I am not really sure if that diode-solution might actually help but I guess it's worth a try - I cannot break it if it's already broken, right?

Now in case I DO need a replacement - do you have an idea where I could get one? I read that some vendors woudl like me to send in my damaged PCB for a Firmware cloning and since I live in Germany it would be good if I don't need to send the PCB around the world... Or maybe there is a vendor who does not need that.

So yeah lotsa questions from my side. Again, my first post here so if I forgot to add something very important, please let me know. Maybe there's also a much easier solution to my problem - I don't know.

Hi, your Pcb has been shorted...there are burning marks on the upper left corner (see red ring in picture)...So you need a replacement pcb and transfer the Rom chip.

I think you mean, upper right corner. The ROM chip is the 8 legged chip in the upper left corner.

I already thought the PCB might have been fired... Now I do have experience with soldering. And considering the ROM Chip is pretty big - I think I'm up for the task. However right now the only vendor of a fitting PCB I can find is hdd-parts.com and for some reason they would like to have my damaged PCB for a Firmware transfer. I guess this is the same thing is ROM Chip transfer?
Cause then I'd ask if they could send me the PCB like that - would be WAY less time-consuming...

The rom chip is the small 8pin ic in the top left corner in the pic
(25p40vp st9923c)
DIY is risky, damages to the rom chip(unique to the drive) while transferring will make recovery costly by a pro later.

In your PCB the TVS diode and the FUSE are blown.
If you have the skills and tools, you can try removing the TVS and replace the fuse.
But DIY on drives with data is not advised.

Else seek a pro, it shouldn't cost much if it is only pcb fault.

The HDD can't spin. You can't hear any noise or just hear a tick sound, which means the PCB is probably faulty. You can find a donor PCB to swap it. The donor PCB should have the same board number - 100536501 as yours.

When you get this PCB, you need move your original PCB's BIOS to the replacement PCB. The 8pins (4 pins on each sides) with 25P05VP、25P10VP、25F512、25F1024、25F1024AN、SST25VF512、SST25VF010, etc. are the BIOS.

Sorry fo rnot reporting in for so long. Got a bit sidetracked.
So michael chiklis (Friedrich) offered me a new PCB including Firmware transfer and it worked like a charm. Harddisk works again and I could backup all the data.
