Hi guys, i´ve been reading the forum for long time trying to learn as much as possible, today i had a problem with a HD that is driving me crazy, i´ll try to explain as best i can.

the hard drive is a 2.5":

Scorpio blue WD3200BEVT
PCB: 2060-701499-005 rev A

If I connect the HD to a computer is not recognized by the BIOS, I tried mhdd with no luck either, all the flags are light up like when you have no hard drive connected to the port you just selected. And of course no recognized by the OS.

Here you can see some measurements i took from the board, i have the 3.3 volt corret but the yellow test point marked as 1.2v give me a 0v reading there are close to the memory chip another test point of 1.2v and also read 0v, i think this is the v_core for the main chip and probably the ram chip.

My question is, this 1.2v are produced by the motor controller IC ? or should i look somewhere else? across the two diodes i get a 0v reading too and those are conected to the motor IC.

I´ll post more info about the chips, but meanwhile, if someone is courious and want me to do some test, just ask

No, no vibration or movement whatsoever. I also have to add, those test pints, i measured them with the pcb in the hd and with the pcb alone, same result.

Probably bad PCB then.

well i found a donor drive:

PCB: 2060-701499-005 rev P1

All the chips are the same numeration and this one has a correct 1.2v test points, but still no recovery, i guess i´ll have to keep investigating, this pcbs doesn´t have a rom to replace, i hope is not envedded on the cpu.

If it doesn't have a "ROM to replace" then it must be internal.

haha yeah defintly not the end, or not yet anyways, since i suspect the motor ic is wrong i´ll try doing a exange, it´ll be a good test to my soldering skill.

THIS have a great probability of being the end of all roads , then. Good luck with the IC

P.S. if the motor driver IS really fried, there is probably something else but only a deep diagnose can tell. Hope you are lucky.

well yes, now that you say so, if it´s fried, smells like a stuck motor or something like that, all of this struck me as crazy because the drive fell to the ground, but is not making clicking noise and such just a lack of voltage in some parts of the circuit.

Did the problem occur because of the fall ?
Then it may not be a PCB faulty, but internal problem(spindle / stiction).
Not advised to power on the drive without checking inside the drive(Not DIY option)



Did you try the donor PCB on the drive ?What happened?
Did the drive spin ?

If you have important data in the drive, stop DIY attempts and seek pro help.

Hi I fixed my WD1600BEVS 60RSTO pcb is a very similar to the model "WD3200BEVT" if they have 0 volts in 1.2V test points, verify that the capacitor C61 C57 C56 and diode D1 can be short-circuited.

In my case the capacitor C61 was shorted remove it is in the stage of 1.2v. I do not know where you get the 1.2 volts anyone know? VCM is?

Yet I dare not install it on the laptop because I realized that diode D1 when heated with hot air is put shorted. Is this normal? ask a technician and he said that the diode is bad.

I have no spare to replace this diode, I want purchase a similarly damaged hard drive to replace the diode D1 and add the capcitor C61.
