Hey everybody.

I'm fighting with this Seagate since 6 or 7 years. Now, it's time to start again. I need some data from it. And these are pretty important.
So, I have a terminal. I can get some info like:
Code:
Interface task reset
4096k x 16 buffer detected
MERC2 - 1_Disk    0.05   01
Buzz  - -20-06 15:53
Head Mask 07,02 - Switch to full int.
              Spin Ready
Dwell Cyl - 084F/0499/04BD
(P)DiskAccess ReadSector EC=43 at ffffffff.00.0006
PATA Reset
Master

T>

Is it possible to read the password? Or is it possible to deactivate it?
I know it's easier with SeDiv. I've asked the owner, but I can't afford it.
Could you help me with it, please.

Regards,
Daniel

I don't now the price now. I was asking about 6 months ago. And I don't remember. Later I will check my archives on the other pc. Yes, I can pay for this help.
Thank you for the answer.

Did you definitely set an ATA password on that drive, and are you sure that is the only problem? If not, then what evidence are you using which makes you believe that is the problem?

I'm asking because although I don't claim to be an expert (my day job is in a different part of the industry), looking at that terminal output, there seems to be a different problem (which might make it appear that the drive is locked, even without that being the real problem - hence why I am asking those earlier questions).

Thanks for the reply. Based on that terminal output I think you might now have an extra problem (drives can deteriorate over time), but I hope (for your sake) that I'm wrong. :) Good luck!

Thank you! I know it. I just made a copy of the newer disc. Also Seagate, and I pluged it after about 3 years. I can see it's not working like before.

That Ec=43 is definitely a lot worse problem than a lost password. Check with MHDD and see : at best it is stuck BSY...

I've seen worse errors in terminal!

At least it's giving "Master" and reaching "T>" so chances are it is just password protected with some mild media degradation thrown in for good measure :-)

You have PM with details of a Danish guy who can almost certainly help you.
