Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can be of assistance. I'm trying to recover a Hitachi drive for a friend, basic history of events is as follows:

PCB identified to have a component burnt out
PCB swapped with a non matching Hitachi drive just to see if it would spin up which it did, Windows saw it and declared it as 'uninitialised' (as expected)
Matching donor drive purchased and PCB swapped, Windows now see's it as a non formatted drive (I cant remember if the size etc was correct)
After a bit more research I found out that the NVRAM chip required swapping, which I have now done
The drive still appears as a non formatted partition, but I've noticed the disk size is incorrect stating its 2TB when it should be 160Gb.
I've tried to use Parted Magic using the Ultimate Boot CD to see if I could access the contents of the drive, but it just errors although it can see it and is still registering as 2TB.

I've got to be honest, I'm out of my depth with this one, I feel like I'm closer to fixing the problem than when I started, but now not sure where to turn. Could anyone suggest my next move? I've already paid £50 for the donor drive, so would rather not have to spend another £300+ on data recovery with a company, plus my friend would rather it not be left to strangers to fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

If you don't want to spend $$$ on data recovery, I suggest you put your donor drive back together and hope that it still works...then call it a day.

If your friend really wants the data back, contact Sean @ pcimage.co.uk or Andy @ databusters.co.uk. But, to expect to pay less than £300 might be a bit hopeful, IMHO.
