Hi there,

I wondered if anyone has found the same issue as me (and how to resolve it) when using R-Studio connecting to DeepSpar over the network attachment.

First off in general it works very well. R-Studio can do a much better job of rebuilding the filesystem than DRE. However, it doesn't quite handle the imaging process as well. There is one major issue that I have:

After a first attempt of using the command "Clone file sectors" I have a number of files imaged perfectly, and a number with unreadable sectors. In the "Status B/C" column in R-Studio it states how many sectors were unreadable in each file. So far so good. However, when I set up a more intense imaging algorithm in DDI, and use the same command R-Studio/DDI does not attempt to re-process those files with unreadable sectors.

I know it is early days for R-Studio/DDI integration so I don't expect too much, but has anyone found a way round this yet? Maybe one for the R-Studio developers?

I am sure R-Tools will add this functionality to R-Studio later. At the moment, you can use DRE to clear a read status of all unreadable sectors of selected files and then use R-Studio so that it reimages these sectors by the "Clone file sectors" command.

So, load DRE, connect to your DDI system, do Filesystem Scan on a particular partition you are interested in, run Search Files to locate specific files (if necessary) or select files manually, execute Object Map -> Unreadable Sectors on the FOUND folder of the partition to select all unreadable sectors of selected files in the Image Viewer form and then press Clear Map button so that read status of all unreadable sectors of selected files would be cleared. After that you can run R-Studio again to "Clone file sectors" so that those unreadable sectors are reimaged.

By the way, you can connect to your DDI system in LAN from R-Studio and DRE simultaneously and execute any operation on a particular partition/folder/file from either of these applications. This gives you flexibility to select which tool you want to use for each particular file system recovery operation.

Unfortunately I can't load up either copy of MFT in either DDI or DRE the due to unreadable sectors on critical areas of the disk, This is why I was giving R-Studio a try using the scan function to then rebuild the MFT.

As I say, in general DeepSpar and R-Studio products are working really well together. I'll be interested to see how it handles HFS. Also, in all jobs, when I used the "Validate" function in DRE it causes to DRE to hang and has to be shutdown via the task manager.

Thanks,
John

We will be releasing a new version of DRE+DDI software for DDI4 today or tomorrow. Try it out and see if the problem persists.
