I have a Seagate 3TB Backup Plus external HDD. It has about 2TB of data on it and I use the HDD about 2-3 times a week.

Just last night I was plugging in the power cable and usb cable, I tilted the HDD slightly to get the cables in, after that the HDD has been unresponsive. The computer doesn't recognize it anymore, it doesn't even spin up.

If you place your ear close to it, you can hear a very faint ticking/clicking sound, about once every 2 seconds, as long as the cables are both plugged in. There's absolutely no spin up and SeaTools doesn't recognize the drive either.

Since then I've take the HDD out of its enclosure, and tried a different ext enclosure but got same results.

I've tapped on it a few times thinking it might be a stuck pin or something, but no luck...any suggestions?

Probably a jammed motor/spindle (if it's a ticking sound) or a head crash (faint clicking sound); either way, sorry to say but in this case there wont be much you can do yourself. You need to seek out a data recovery professorial if you want to get the data recovered.

Problem can be stiction, but tapping is not the ( safe/correct) solution.

If data is important , seek pro help( it may not cost much if heads are ok)
No safe DIY solutions for your problem

wow this freakin sucks, why do these big hard drives have to be sooo sensitive

I have a portable hdd that i move around all the time and never had issues...

but for what its worth, I've recorded a sound clip, if somebody can please take a look and see if there's absolutely anything that could be done...

I've also managed to find a matching pcb, do you guys think swapping it would do any good?

Hey sashok07, I'm also in NYC...you think you can take a look at it?

I've had a very similar issue with a western digital hdd a few months back, after giving up on it, I just left it on the table disconnected, after about a week I decided to connect it again and it magically just started working again. I ofcourse copied all my data off it onto this seagate
