Transferred ROM? Or checked the fw ver matched?

You said "PCB was damaged". So, we need to rule out PCB first if you say it is indeed damaged.

I believe he means that he has seen this error on other cases where pcb was damaged, but now he sees it where pcb is ok.

(ie. pcb is not the culprit for this error).

FWIW, I have a WD2500BB which has no history of problems and whose MOD 20 also has a non-zero checksum.

Could you upload the resource dump for your drive, ie the SA MODs and ROM? Then we could confirm whether your PCB or its ROM really is native.

Could you also tell us the date code on the label and the markings on the MCU, SDRAM, flash memory (aka ROM), and motor controller? This will help us determine if the board was manufactured at around the same date as the drive.

hello again .. and really thank you guys for your input

drive mods and flash
http://www.4shared.com/rar/s_p13reP/backup.html

MCU :
88i6545-tfj1
GN50911A.1
0623 B2P
TW

SDram :
EM6381 65TS-6G
K313208RLE826.1H
ETRONTECH

MOTOR CONTROLLER :
SMOOTH L6283 1.3
9925S VH
MYS 99 630

ROM:
SS725YF010
20-4C-SAE
0626182-AA

thank you for the article , i have read it before , flash operations >> repair , will not work , as it's only for ROYL chips i think , and when tried , the drive powers off . and re-power on .

as for the tool am looking to get , i need a tool that can handle WD FW repaires , especially , being able to edit head map for drives that clicks because of dead head , so i can reach the data available for other heads .
if the drive clicks because of a dead head , and that dead head is the one responsible to read the SA , is there a tool to emulate a drives SA to bypass that head ?

thank you

The date codes that I recognise are 0623 630 0626. They're in YYWW / YWW (Year / Week) format. This puts the age of the PCB at around week 30 of 2006 or later. Match this against the date on the label of your drive.

As for your MODs and ROM, sorry but I can't download them. 4shared wants me to login. Why not upload them to HDD Guru's file area instead, or attach them to your next post?

MOD 02 has an internal date of 12-17-2007. That does not match the PCB. What is the date on the label?

The serial number in MOD 02 is "WD-WMAM9YX14662". What is on the label?

ROM_0D.bin   0xD     0x1       109D  - firmware version
ROM_47.bin   0x47    0x1       R.6U  - adaptives
ROM_0A.bin   0xA     0x1       0000  - head map
ROM_30.bin   0x30    0x2       1500  - RPDList ?

If I understand SalvationData's blog article correctly, ROM MOD 0D is mismatched to SA MOD 11. This would support the conclusion that the ROM code is not native.

PCB is NOT original.

SA version is 109K, ROM is 109D
