good afternoon every body ,

i have a wd5000aavs
PCB #2060-701537-004 rev A
the customer has connected the power supply of the floppy drive to the pcb J8 socket   !!!!!!

drive wonut spin at all now , a similar pcb for another HDD model was tested to see if the pre amp is damaged some how , and the drive spins OK .

on the patient PCB i can see the PCB printed circut lines burnt from the serial pins to some of their distenation

do u think , fixing the lines (at least 4 of the 8 are burnt ) does deserve the time and money ?
or doing such a thing is useless ?

thank you

Does the drive click ? If drive clicks even whith a compatible PCB then pre-amp is gone. Even without correct adaptives on ROM, if PCB is compatible and drive just clicks and you can't access to SA then Pre-Amp is dead.

What about if donor has alternate head mapping... was donor 100% identical?

The problem with that is that there is some high possibility for the MCU to be toasted...

maybe you are on true, maybe MCU toasted, any way to test if is working fine MCU?

Thaks

thank you all ,

actually , the donors PCBs has came from non identical drives , so clicking was highly expected .
i just used them to see if drive spins at all , and willing to flush several roms to them to test if i can get access to user data (i think it's possible to flush several roms of this drive model to get to data )

i donut think that the MCU is damaged , as when comparing the patient PCB readings with the donor PCB , it just gives the same voltages , all the capacitors on the pcb + L1,2,3 + the resistances .

smooth chip capasitors are getting power at the same voltages as donor .
one notice is that the marked contact reading 3.55 V on the patient while 0 on the donor

and U10 readings on donor and on patient are diffirent

transferring the mcu gonna be a real pain , i will consider it as last resort , hope i can manage something :?

thank you again for your hints

dear ;

patient pcb is not working at all < and no single bit can be obtained from it's rom

am looking for some1 who has this drive to send me a copy of the rom ...

thank you

The jumper pins are wired to the MCU's GPIO pins. Placing +12V on these pins undoubtedly killed the MCU. I can't see any way for this to have damaged the preamp.

The SMOOTH chip controls the various voltages, not the MCU. Therefore the presence or absence of Vcore and Vio says nothing about the state of the MCU other than that it is not shorting either rail.

If the drive spins up, then the ROM must be OK and you should see the MCU's Vio voltage at the jumper pins.

I agree with FZABKAR here
There are great chances that MCU might have damaged.
Easiest method would be to get matching ROM and get acess to SA / Rebuild the ROM
