Greetings to all,

This is my first post here after a few days reading many topics on the forum.

I have a problem that maybe one of you can lead me to a solution.

Recently my Hitachi HDD crashed and i've managed to buy some donor drives because I needed to swap headers (headers crashed because of the impact).

Patient drive is:

7K500-500 HTS725050A9A364
P/N: 0A78275
MLC: DA3332
Month: AUG-10

PCB:
OA71428
DA3005A
P2Q033
7C4V

Donor Drive is:
7K500-500 HTS725050A9A364
P/N: 0A78275
MLC: DA3332
Month: JUN-10

PCB:
OA71428
DA3005A
Mzh024
89NB

Problem:
1 - I've swapped headers from donor to patient. After power on, hdd seams to start good, but header seams to not calibrate (HDD is not detected in windows or linux (using bootmed).
2 - Put headers back to donor drive. Everything is OK with headers/donor
3 - Put PCB from patient in donor drive (without swap NVRAM) and behaviour is exactly the same as from step 1
4 - Put other 2 PCB's I have OA71428 DA3005A into patient, same behavior as from step 1
5 - Put back donor PCB into doner, everyting is back to normal in donor drive wich is working fine.

Both donor and patient platers are clean, no scratches, no dust, no fingerprints.

Any ideas? I will apreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

Well then its difficult to help, because you will need the tools to complete this recovery. Often Hitachi drives require firmware adjustments for the new heads to work.

Hi,

I think I know what's the problem with that drive.
If you want, I can check it for you.

BlackST Yes, it is a problem, but I believe that what happen was that NVRAM become because corrupted It has the same symptoms as if I use another PCB without swapping NVRAM.

If I manage to read NVRAM with other external tools besides PC3K, etc, can it be rebuild/repaired? Can you guys open it on PC3K or SD tools for repair? (I saw a screenshot, i believe from SD HD Doctor, that have an "Open File" button, and as I am not familiary with this tools, I don't know if it can be used for this.. something like, Open File>Rebuild>Save File)

Regards

1) you can't be sure if the problem is NVRAM, other module , something else or a blend
2) without having the entire firmware + NVRAM it is impossible to diagnose (need the drive !) : how do you save it ?(the firmware, not the NVRAM)
3) it is impossible to do it remotely with you having no tools....
4) ... and maybe all this for free
