I am new to this forum and originally mis-posted under an IX4 topic. I have updated that post to close and created a new post here to share my problem...

I have an Iomega StorCentre Ix2-200 which worked until the other week.

The unit started to continually blink the red light on the front and I could not access the drive at all. Reading online, the only information I could find was to complete a full reset of the unit which I did: i.e. holding reset for 20 seconds, pulling the power out (continuing to hold reset for a further 20 seconds), powering back on (still holding reset for a further 15 seconds). I now regret this as I think this may have been a dramatic step and is creating a bigger problem....

When I completed this reset, the unit has restarted and I can access the dashboard through the IP address of the unit, however, the unit will not let me access the hard drive data. The dashboard states '2 new drives with existing data have been added' - when I go to the set up, the unit wants to erase the data on these drives. I really need the data as it contains work, family photos and music.

Surely I don't need to erase all of the data and start again?

Please help, if someone is able to help me sort this, I would be so grateful. I would be happy to pay if that is needed as I can't figure out why this has happened, or how to get the data back. As you can probably tell, I am not the most technical person and so simple instructions will be needed if you are able to help.

Sincere thanks in advance. I am in a bit of a panic as my wife does not know I may have cocked up and lost our family photos.... please help before I have to 'fess up.

Thank you

If your data is valuable to you, seek the assistance of a professional data recovery lab.

Most of the people on this forum are experts on hard drives at the lowest level. Meaning, they use expensive hardware, software, and tools to recover data.

You may not get any help as your device is a nas device and there is probably nothing wrong with the drive(s) at all.

It would depend on how you set your device up (raid 1, raid 0). I ran into a real problem with a dns-323 nas device. I was able to get the data from the drive by removing the drive from the device, connecting it directly to a pc, and using a utility that could read the drive format. Because I had the device set up as raid 1 (striped), I only had to deal with one of the drives.

The dns-323 uses an ext3 format (linux). I was able to find a driver to load on the pc (windows) that would read the drive that was formatted ext3. I am sure there are several utilities to accomplish the same thing.

The configuration of the unit may not be the problem, it could be something as trivial as a damaged superblock or some other logical problem that cant be resolved by resetting the unit.

Any attempts to repair through the unit can result in further damage by rebuild, reinitialization or chancing of the current array parameters. If you need your data, you need to reach it by reconstruction of the array parameters outside of the unit, i.e directly attached to your PC.

Edit: I meant raid 1 (mirrored), not striped..

Awesome thank you. I will download the software and try out the idea of connecting it directly to a pc. I really appreciate the views and please be patient with me as this is out of my comfort zone. I will try the software linked to above, but if there are any suggestions on other software or an idea of the steps I need to go through it would be gratefully received as this will be the first time I am attempting this.

I had another member pm me to offer to fix remotely, but I think it is an issue with the software and my resetting rather than the disc itself.

Has anyone been through this before? Anything I should watch out for when I connect it to my pc? Thanks in advance
