Hi.
I have a ST3500418AS with a critical problem.
I'll try expain all steps i followed:

1. The hard disk is detected in BIOS, but in Windows can't mount the filesystem, the size is ok.
2. Try upgrading firmware, but say: "Invalid Data 1:0" "Failed"
3. I try repair with cable SERIAL converter to USB (tested and used to repair other hdd)

5. I tried format user partition, but always fail!!

Now, the disk isn't detected in BIOS or system.

Always, the platters and head move, and sound normal, no strange noises

Somebody can help me, please?

SIM error 1002 = this message alerts us to some error with one or more defect list. Potentially P-list or NRG list can be bad.
Please, send diagnostic command on terminal to check P-List and NRG list.

To check P-List the proper command is V10 on level T.
To check NRG List the proper command is V40 on level T.
