I have very specific problem with my Seagate ST2000DM001. It's working as data disk in my PC - I prepared him to work with GParted and I copied my data from old disk. After installing new system on completely different disk, my Seagate has begun to be visible as System partition - like that one 100MB, which is sometimes created by Windows Installer. Can I repair this bug without losing my data?

Furthermore I would like to ask you to check S.M.A.R.T of this disk. Is it really ok for new (nearly monthly) disk?

The Windows System partition being visible shouldn't cause you any problems
Just ignore it, and/or give it no drive letter

Sorry I don't know enough about Smart thresholds etc
but look ok to me
Some Smart reading utilities will falg any problem values up in red

xsoliman, please read again what i said. I don't have problem directly with that 100MB "System" partition but with one of my disk being one. I had about 1,4TB of data before this problem happens and I still have it. Windows added these 100MB files on this disk without any permission and changed status of the disk from "Primary" to "System". I will say it once again - this disk has nothing to do with my system, it's data disk. I would like to remove this problem without losing my data.

About S.M.A.R.T - I'm just curious is it ok to see RAW's values like these on new one disk.

Hi, if you are worried about it, at all, copy your data off to a backup drive NOW. You will at least have piece of mind.
after you have verified the backup has worked, and data is safe, then if you wish you can delete all partitions, make a new partition and reformat.

Any time a disk does something different, or even looks at me the wrong way, I don't trust it. I would rather have 1 extra copy of the files than none.

xsoliman, I believe the OP is saying that the partition with his data on it is being displayed as being a system partition, like the 100mb one. He isn't saying the 100mb system partition is visible.. at least that's how I read it.

I would copy off data, repartition to be the type of partition required and reformat.

But to lose data when there is a chance now of saving would suck

HaQue, I was thinking about it, but...

• For now I don't have that big additional disk to copy all data.
• Even if I had second disk it would take long time to copy all data.
• I don't know for sure that Windows won't screw up again and again...

I know that is unusual problem because usually I can easily find a way to go, but this time I couldn't.

So what do you actually see on this data drive now
just a 100MB system partition and 1.9TB unallocated free space ?

1.9TB system with nothing in it


A Restorer Ultimate or R-Studo scan of the disk, from the begeninning, should be able to pick up the files (and confirm they are there and good) unless you are very unlucky
Then can work out how to fix the correct partition layout and ntfs boot sector etc etc, depending on what has got overwritten
