Hi everyone,

A year ago I did something really stupid: Plugged the wrong adapter into my external HDDs and it fried the pcbs.

I got replacements for both and they worked however I made a really stupid mistake with one of them: I unscrewed it and looked at the plates (I didn't touch them). While doing this, I thought maybe the needle was out of place so I pushed it over the plates or off the plates (can't remember).

Anyway, when I now plug it in, although it boots up, it makes a loud high pitched buzzing sound. I think the head is stuck or something is wrong with it.

I'm not sure what I have to do, but I would greatly appreciate some advice. I can't send it in to a data recovery service as there is sensitive material on it (videos of me and the ex, etc)

Thank you!

Without professional services, your data is lost...with professional services, your data might be recoverable, but it is unlikely to be cheap, if still recoverable at all. As for the stuff on the drive, you should have nothing to worry about, if you send to a professional lab.
