Hi I dropped my WD green 2tb fall was less than 1meter.. It was in a dock and I was copying files to another hdd when i repositioned my laptop the usb cable wasnt long enough and it fell. The power cut off suddenly as it fell.I picked it up and placed it back into the dock and powered on the hdd. There was no vibration from the drive so it didnt spin and made a clicking sound although im not sure what a hdd beeping sounds like so ill just say the hdd clicks. The clicks happen for about 5 secs and the drive goes quiet. I was wondering based on the scenario above could anybody here give me a possible diagnosis for the drive.Im still reviewing my options and dont want to send the drive to a data recovery service yet.Had a thought to open the drive and try to repair it.Drive is out of warranty anyway. But i dont know whats wrong with it.I looked up on youtube and saw this video where this guy resets the heads into the starting position away from the platters. The video seems straightforward and it look like i could attempt this. But if this doesnt work then im screwed. All i want is to get the drive spinning and detected again.I dont want data recovery since I can do that myself successfully recovered data from a couple of drives in the past ,with powerful softare stellar , icare Please point me to people\businesses that repair physical damage on a drive Id like to keep costs low and recover data myself Also which possible diagnotics might occur when a drive gets dropped. eg like head/motor stuck scratched platter. what else might happen ? For members who have dropped their drive what was the diagnosis they recieved after sending to data recovery service? Thanks
