R Studio crashed using 3.5Gb of memory... amazing doing nothing
after scan we still wants to create file structure of some sort and after that freeze

Everything was done wrong from the beginning.

If you have spanned volumes on you raid you need to create regions in R-studio for each drive with exactly dedicated sizes, only after that need to create virtual volume set .
Otherwise, you volumes will be connected wrong way (with extra spaces between).

If you do everything good you don't need to make scan in R-studio, just open your Partition as is , with all the folders and good working files inside.

Today i have been contacted by phone from ERIC in WD
and they decided to recover my data for free given the nature of the case as an one time only case

Seeing that Western Digital doesn't offer data recovery (at least to the best of my knowledge), I'm curious if they will be able to help you. Do report back and let us know the results, please.

Is very strange that WD offers suport for Data revocery. they do not have knowledge about this area.

Let's see what WD can do for you and for your data.
I didn't know as well that they were doing data recovery.
I wouldn't have big expectations if i were you.
And you might as well want to clone the drives first, just i case WD ends up messing the data even further...

You must have complained a lot! Or have something on them! :mrgreen:
Still never answered my question, which is fine. I was just curious more than anything, unless I misunderstand how the device really works.

Western Digital seemed pretty good in helping me out one time. But I'm sure I had something on them. And I complained a lot - with a plenty of engineering talk. I had a disk fail. And it was from 2005. They warranty-replaced it as a one-time courtesy recently.

I personally believe that every HDD company should offer low-cost data recovery. After all they make the damned things. The volume would be huge! And the demographics of customers that would use such a service are the exact same type that call the mfg. in the first place.

On the other hand, I think HDD companies should promote backups and 2nd copies much much more than they do. But that's catch-22. Promoting a 2nd disk for backup conflicts with the reliability claims of the 1st drive. Consumers get wary and go to another brand entirely.

im a western digital beta tester... but didn't help me in the first stage...

what helped me was warning users in the forum and the moderator about this problem, the moderator liked my attitude and escalated my issue...

i was trying to help others avoiding my problem so i got my issue solved

when i receive my NAS i will let you know the results

if alll the Hdds are ok
Can i get my REd drives back normally ?
or will i receive the data in other drives loosing my reliable reds...

It's fine, don't worry. I will run into one any one of these days and I will press the button on it myself.

By the way, not all reds are reliable. Some are nightmare.

the device its using latest busybox and a proprietary GUI

do you want printscreens of the options ?

I will receive a replacement unit in the time they are recovering

Lost me at the point "spanned volume set with 64kb"

The term spanned volume set does not apply to 64kb blocks. Lets hope wd knows the difference :D
