I need to swap a ROM chip on this board. The chip on the right is marked with a 25, but does not look like a standard ROM chip. The chip on the left does look like a standard ROM chip, but is not marked with a 25? Will the real ROM Chip please stand up?

Thanks for your help thatdellguy. Hiding where you are from and not giving useful information must fill up your day. I agree it is pretty basic stuff and I think I know the answer, but when I am dealing with clients data I want to be sure.

Tell us the markings on the chips and someone will identify them for you.

I think the board has been resting on something as the numbers are a little worn, this is the best I can do.
The chip on the right is 25FV101T 1BA1A
Chip on the left is S93C6 6D22 4365
Thanks :-)

It sounds silly when I say it, but S93C66 is the "NVRAM", while 25V101T is the "ROM". In fact neither is a ROM and both are NVRAMs.

I think that's what has been confusing me. I know on this Hitachi its the NVRAM I need to swap (according to Donor Drives). Many thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

This one is getting a little more complex. I have swapped the NVRAM over and the drive is still not powering up. The board does comes DRD and I can read the NVRAM. The drive does however power up with the donor board and the donor NVRAM??

Could you upload the donor and patient NVRAM contents? Could we also see the ROM firmware?

Go into "utility status" in UDMA, and you'll probably see the NVRAM and ROM differ in version.

If you haven't matched the first two lines if the PCB sticker, then you'll more than likely need to swap the "ROM" chip over too.

Sorry its taken a while to get back to you. Had an Emergency RAID last night.

The plot thickens.. Although I ordered a particular donor board, I received a different board. It is the same family and revision, so the board does need a swap of both chips. However after completing the swap, the drive does not come DRD. After I swapped the NV-RAM chip, the board came DRD but would not read data, presumably because we needed the ROM chip swap. After also swapping the ROM chip, the drive stays BSY and will not spin up. So I am assuming a corrupt ROM chip. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for everyones help. We did get the data back for our client. It seems that the donor board we purchased was not working correctly. We got the right board, swapped the NV-RAM and got the data. Once again thanks.
