Computer threw sparks and let go of lots of magic smoke. Motherboard, CPU, two out of four memory modules, power supply, the video card, and one of five hard drives were taken out in the process.

Understand risks of DIY. Have done multiple DIY's in past, all successes.

Brand new system, BIOS doesn't recognize this one drive. Spins up, no weird sounds.

Took PCB off, and there's very visible scorching. (EDIT: Pictures pending, scanning PCB now.)

Looking for a compatible donor PCB, hoping that's all that got hit. Would be also interested in your pricing for moving the ROM, if I send it to you.

Should be easy enough job for any decent local electronics guy, to swap the ROM chip (8 legs top left of your photo) to a new PCB with same P/N.

Make sure the guy is good, because if he damages the ROM it's pretty much "game over"!

There is no need to risk further damage by moving the "ROM". Just remove the 5V TVS diode (immediately below the ROM) and then replace the burnt inductors with wire links.

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/ (photo clips)

Also see http://hddrepairing.com/downloads_n_vid ... airing.pdf

(Don't use petrol to clean your PCB. Use isopropyl alcohol instead.)

The following PCB suppliers will transfer the ROM for free:

+1 fzabkar,

good advices.

Probably with those corrections maybe enough, if not then you will need a new PCB and ROM exchange.
