Could someone please provide te terminal setting for an old Seagate ST340810A 40 Gbyte HDD, U6 model IDE connection ? The drive has the 8-pin serial port; I do not know if serial connection works with those ones, I never connected them before. I could not find it googling or searcing tis website.

When the computer is switched on, Windows XP startup screen comes; it then stays for sometimes and ten the blue screen comes.

When I connect the HDD to another computer thought IDE to Sata connector, it is not detected. Neither is it detected through Sata-to-USB adaptor.

Terminal output is:

Intf task reset 1024k x 16 buffer detected

Subsequent messages like the following have confirmed the presence of bad sectors (Thanks to waqas):

OLS -18b291F, > 1BC969A, OLS -1BC969A, 1ED2848

Now I have a problem fixing those bad sectors (located on user area as windows screen was being displayed at start up before the BSOD comes).

Since the HDD is Pata type, I can not use many programs which demand only Sata. I have been trying to use HDAT2 to fix those bad sectors, but I am stack at physical connection stage. HDAT2 is not recognizing the PATA to USB connection (I tried more tan three cables but in vain).

Can someone please help ?

I have googled and found out that USBASPI.SYS driver is needed in order for the USB PATA drive to be detected. HDAT2 has the driver and it gives an option to load the USB driver at start up; but, when this USB driver is selected, all USB ports in the comouter become undetected, even the keyboard and the mouse fail to be detected. Any help please.

So, you are using PATA to USB converters ?
You should use PC which has normal PATA controller onboard ...

Unforunately, i do not have a computer of this type arround me at the moment. Is there a way that I can go around this ?
