Hi

from time to time I pulled out 40x WD3200BPVT-22JJ5T0 drives from Acer Notebooks.

They all had the same failure: they are detected in BIOS, but then they are just busy and click every 10 seconds.
They can't be formatted.

I then regenerated the translator with P-List (WDR 6.0), cleared SMART and did a full erase with the WDR tool.

Now they are all working again without any bad sectors or delays.

But when connected, they need about 15 seconds to get ready. The spin-up time is very high.
And when I want to clear the G-List (they are empty, just for testing), all drives show an error:
Clear G-List - 51A2=UNKNOWN ERROR 51A2

Is there a firmware update or something I can do to make them perfect?
I'm afraid to re-use the drives now, because this bug will reappear in some time.

The surface and the heads are fine, but they have this bug, that they need a long time to get ready and they can't work with the G-List anymore.

Firmware is: 01.01A01
Family: WDR shows unknown, but i read it's Jamaica 4KV

Regards

Hello.

You might have the slow responding problem, very usual in WD drives.

Thank you, but I think in my case there are bugged G-List, RBB-List modules

I think i need to find out these modules and fix them. With 40 drives I can try a lot and if I kill some drives, there are still enough to use.

With 40 drives, then that means that potentially have 40 sets of firmware. That should be plenty of firmware to work with.

I'm curious to know what WDR tech support said.

Haha! WDR does not have tech support, because China HDD is closed, thats why WDR is not has support.

I think WDR is not supported fully the JAM 4KV drives.
Mostly WD drives puts itself DRDY state very slow, when some modules of copy0 is damaged.
The firmware corruption could occur some bad power supply, so maybe not the WD drives has some bug...maybe there is some problems with the ACER notebooks power supply.

Still the same, if I load from Head 1. They must have come out bugged from the factory.
All have power on hours 0 and 10-20 start / stops
