I have an external hard drive for sometime has been unaccusable for two reasons I know of 1 I corrupted the master boot record and 2 I also corrupted the partition table. it shows up in my windows as double the size it is. its a 500gb and it shows up as 1000gb. so im asking for help and a direction to a solution. I have data id like to recover but mainly to be able to use this hard drive again would be nice. any help would be great. I have looked at youtube and google and this forum. but I fear making it worse.

post more details about your drive
you can try with active partition recovery, but this program is not for free.
If data are valuable for you, then outsource it(find pro data recovery company near you)

ISTM that the problem may be a simple one.

I would examine the drive with a disc editor, eg DMDE (freeware).

http://dmde.com/

Could you show us DMDE's Partitions window and the contents of sector 0 in hexadecimal (Mode -> Hexadecimal)?
