Or this, given how small the connections will be.

Yep understood. If you find your man and he gets the eeprom data then whats going to be your next move as you still haven't said what the original problem was?

Considering your location I have sent you a pm suggesting where to find somebody who can do this for you. Best to discuss it with him privately and see what he advises. If you get the eeprom data thats great and the job can move on to the next stage which might be simple or might be difficult depending on the original circumstances/problem. Good luck!

If you jimmied the eeprom off with a screwdriver, I would suggest outsourcing the whole job to a DR company such as pcimage.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, but we've had to decline the job.

We don't have the equipment for this type of job, and in 10 years have never needed to, hence the reluctance to invest in the kit and practise time to do so.

We know our limitations in fine electronic repair and this exceeds them! :-)

We would rather let someone who has experience in this type of salvage tackle it.

If the chip can be "repaired" and contents read, we are more than happy to continue the recovery from there :-)

Ask Nigel Cook if he would be willing to have a go:

http://www.divdev.fsnet.co.uk

Nigel is a regular participant in the sci.electronics.repair newsgroup and is known for his "mechanical" repairs.

I believe I've seen similar work done on damaged NAND chips performed by some Russian guys from NRTeam, but don't recall seeing any other evidence of anyone doing such fine (and risky) work.

But be aware that this sort of work will come at a price.

Oh Lord ,
Please Install This on a Simple Adapter " Not Ziff " .But Please Take a File " Reti Aka File " And File Both Side of Alastic Surrounding The Leg You will see the leg then .As said in my older post then connect a jumper wire from that bare location to adapter and read the same in a eprom programmer and then continue recovery .

My guess would be that this is a total DIY mis-diagnosis nightmare. The drive probably has bad heads and like every person who knows nothing about hard drives they bought into the notion that replacing the PCB can fix any hard drive (and out comes the screwdriver for "EEPROM" replacement).

maybe, but would that constitute the banning.. I guess it is interesting to know why, though none of our business! ;)

Yeah, it was more of a "wondering why" rather than suggesting that he'd done something wrong. I can't see what he's said would deserve a banning, unless of course the incriminating posts have been removed.

Ah well, no worries. As you say, none of our business :-)
