Hi

I have a Hyper-v VHD file 1.6TB and snapshot AVHD file 1.8GB.

The user was using AVHD file under Hyper-v and then they had issues starting the Hyper-V machine when AVHD was connected

So they attached the VHD file and it prompted for disk scanning, after the disk scanning they are able to load the OS from VHD. But the user found that some files where missing in the VHD.

The missing files may be in AVHD, but right now the AVHD file seems to be corrupted and unable to mount. If you are familiar with this type of recovery, please pm me, I can arrange remote desktop and we can engage you for recovery services.

We've been reassembling damaged virtual hard drives manually and I'd say a lot here depends on the snapshot condition.

So how you have decided there's a problem with the snapshot, how you have rescued it, what caused the damages?
And what is it now: an empty file or a file with damaged data or ...

When we try to load the AVHD file in Hyper-v manager, it says Error applying Hard Drive Changes. (attached full error message)

Not sure what caused the damage.

The parent VHD file in 1.6TB and AVHD file is 1.9GB

@ jag17

you can either do 1 of those 2 options:

1- Scan the image looking for those missing files?
2- convert your disk image to physical and scan it there with any App.

++ I believe we need to scan the AVHD file. I couldn't find any DR software to scan the AVHD file.

2- convert your disk image to physical and scan it there with any App.
++ I believe we can only convert VHD to Physical. I don't see any option to convert AVHD to physical. Also unable to merge AVHD to VHD. Attempting to merge gives the attached error.
