Hello All! I am new to the forums here and while I have a little bit of technical knowledge, I have never really work with Hard Drives at this level so I am looking for some advice. The patient is a Seagate Model ST1000VX000. My PSU went bad and upon replacing it the drive would not spin up at all. The Drive is still under manufacturers warranty but although I have backups of most the data on the drive there is still around 200gb that i don't have backed up and would like to recover and I cant justify spending a small fortune doing it. I am to believe that the PCB is to blame but I want to be sure before replacing it.

Seagate SV35

Model - ST1000VX000

FW - CV13

PCB - 100664987 REV B

Could be "just" the Pcb, in worst case also the preamp.
Change Pcb and swap Rom...if it works...all fine. If not, then need for a DR company to take a look.

Good luck.

I was hoping it is just the PCB. I know there are a few places to send my PCB and they will switch the ROMs and send me a New PCB but do i just need to get the same PCB (100664987 REV B) or is there other specs that must match.

You mentioned the preamp. this may be a dumb question but like I said I am new to this. but what is that?

Thanks much for your help!!

Check these components:

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/ST ... 01_TVS.jpg

Your PCB is not identical, but the same components should be identifiiable.

The preamp is inside the drive on the headstack.

The ROM is shown in this photo:

Can you upload a photo of your PCB?

The photo is terrible, but I can't see any obvious signs of distress on the PCB. You need to measure the TVS diodes and zero-ohm resistors before proceeding.

See http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diode_FAQ.html

Sorry about the terrible photo. I will test the TVS and post back when I can.

If I understand this I test the TVS Diodes on the 200 OHM range correct?

All you are looking for are short circuits, so the 200 ohms range is fine.
