I have a Constellation ES.3 which I can get to the serial terminal for, but which isn't responding to most commands. For example:

ASCII Diag mode

F3 T>F

F3 T>/C

F3 C>Q

(I got the /C Q from this post: viewtopic.php?t=27119) So no output for F, or Q, or ctrl-l or any of the other common commands.

About the only one it does print anything meaningful is ctrl-a

However, for some commands it simply displays nothing, and for others it displays an error:

F3 T>a

Invalid Diag Cmd

Anyone know if for the things where it doesn't display an error, it's printing the output to some other port or something?

What is the part number or the label?

Hello:

I have the same problem ST4000DM000, FW:CC54, P/N:1F2168-568.
I have access to terminal but HDD do not answer to almost any command.
In my case the HDD have some bad sector, BIOS and SO recognize
the HDD OK.

Alright, starting to make sense more. Seems like firmware access has additional restrictions.

No, the drive is brand new and perfectly functional

I"m not sure I trust a guy who cannot spell the name of the city where he is located....unless there is an Ottowa somewhere in Canada that I don't know about.

Many new Seagates have locked out terminal access...this drive is likely one of them.

That was weird, not sure how that happened. But it happened because I decided to try to be more forthcoming than "nowhere" in my profile

But the question is, is there a magic command to unlock the typical access? Because running strings on the drive's firmware update I can see that it has all the normal expected strings.

yep, Terminal is locked, so are factory commands (not sure about this exact model). I have method to open the Grenadas and Lombards (have not met this exact family yet, but it probably can be opened the same way.

So I take that to mean you have a way to re-enable the terminal, that lcoughey and labtech don't know about? Care to share?
