Hi. I've been working on a project for a client and unfortunately I don't have a backup. It's a 2 TB Glyph running on a Mac. Two days ago I noticed that it didn't mount. I panicked and restarted the computer and it was there. Stupidly I did not back it up at that time. The next day I noticed it wasn't mounted again and when I tried it was making the horrible clicking sound. I tried restarting it a few times, used a different computer etc. A couple of times it made a beeping sound. I sent it to Ontrack and they brought it into the cleanroom and I received this message.

'In our diagnosis we looked at the drive physically, mechanically, and structurally. This diagnosis determined that your drive had a severe head crash. This head crash caused severe physical damage to the platters in your drive and has left the drive unrecoverable.'

I'm thinking of sending it over to Drive Savers now. Am I being desperate? Does this sound like a lost cause? Has anyone ever heard of a scenario like this where some kind of miracle happened? Thank you very much.

No harm in getting a second opinion but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
Some cases, few that they are, are irrecoverable if physical damage is severe.
sorry dude.

Ask Ontrack for a photo of the head crash...although sometimes it is difficult to show the damage in a photo, many times the head crash is severe enough that there is no question that it is unrecoverable. There is no point in wasting money on shipping and the time for other labs to look at a lost cause, if a photo can say it all.
