 Post subject: Strange Case: Changes stop to have effect after power OFF

Hi friends:

I am dealing with a Seagate ST380811AS. The hdd has a few bad sectors but any intent to repair it becomes unsuccessful because hdd always returns to its original state after power cycle. Tried different bad sector repair softwares like Seatools, MHDD, Hdat and terminal commands, also tried zero fill, low level format, cut HPA, clear smart and Glist, selfscan commands and seemingly all finish without error, but after power off/on the files, folders and bad sectors remains intact.

Any idea?

Writing doesn't work. If you are looking to repair drive - you need to solder terminal adapter for seagate. There is no other way to repair drive. You could come again with initial terminal outputs and we can continue to try to repair drive.

drHDD: I dont understand what you want to say with "you need to solder terminal adapter for seagate". I have a USB TTL adpater for serial port connection, i imagine that you refers to it. I tried via terminal commands, cleared smart y glist, tried low level format with command T48 and all commands gave no error but after power off hdd remains like before.

Spildit: I have not firmware tools, but i can asume the selfscan (N10,,22) risk if is not mandatory backup fw modules. It is required or mandatory to restore the fw modules or there is a chance that it work without this?

Well tried some commands an also Selfscan command and stops after Test 00. It was curious that the only way to start selfscan was restarting hdd in slip mode (CTRL+T), because with power off after N10,,22 command was ignored.
